Who is your inspiration?

Who is your inspiration?

I’ve heard many success stories of people saying that, at some point in their lives, they were inspired or influenced by someone who played an important role in their journey. I’ve always wanted to meet someone like that, and I think I finally have: Marc Lou.

I’m still studying him. Today, I watched his YouTube video about his journey, then went to his X account to find his early posts from when he started building in public. I searched between January 1 and January 31, 2023, and read every post from that month, including replies. One post really caught my eye, and I wanted to make a note of it. Here it is.

16th Jan 2023, Marc Lou
5 rules I used to build 10 startups in 2022:

  • 1/ I have no idea where I’m going.
But if I do something and show it to the world, I’m going somewhere.
Along the way, I find guiding stars. Consistency is my guide.

  • 2/ I lie to myself. Because constraints work.
“We must build this startup in 2 days, Marc”

    • I built http://BuddyCrush.co in a plane and ranked #3 on Product Hunt
    • I built http://VisualizeHabit.com in 3 days and got 70,000 visitors
I think in days, not weeks or months.
  • 3/ I don’t have expectations when I launch so I’m never disappointed.
    It’s a lie… I do have a lot.
But I force myself to believe I don’t.
And I remind myself I’m lucky to be a healthy white male.
It works just enough so I can move on easily.

  • 4/ I prioritize health over work
I sleep 8 hours daily, exercise, read, and learn Korean.
90% of my startups fail. I need to stay sane.
So I build habits to see daily progress.

  • 5/ I commit 100% to my ambitions.
I moved to Bali and outsource cooking and cleaning.
    No job, no plan B.
    I don’t party, I barely hang out.
